When: Every Second Saturday, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Where: Erwin Park 4300 Co Rd 1006, McKinney, TX 75071

What we will be doing: Erwin Park has ever-growing and changing needs along its mountain bike trails and skills course area. Helpful volunteers are needed to do heavy duty labor along the bike trails. Each Second Saturday is different pending the parks needs.

What to bring: Tools if you have them, bug spray, sunscreen, and water.
Power tools, should you bring any, should be battery operated for trail maintenance. Protective eyewear and headwear are recommended.
If you bring your own tools, please have them marked as such so we know they are yours.
What do I wear: Long pants, long sleeves, face covering, and closed toed shoes or boots. Sunscreen and bug spray are recommended. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Please do not wear leggings or other thin material which is not protective on your body.

Historic Interurban Railway Trail Workday

Where: The easement between businesses and McKinney Greens Park, divided by Wilson Creek. This is along Eldorado Parkway near McDonald Street. Go to this address and pull into the backlot for parking: 301 Eldorado Pkwy, McKinney, TX 75069

When: Saturday, January 11th, 2024, 8 AM – 11 AM

What we will be doing: The Historic Interurban Railway (HIR) has slowly been uncovered throughout McKinney by the efforts of the McKinney Parks Foundation and McKinney Parks and Recreation. The ultimate goal is to make historic landmarks of the HIR accessible to the public along McKinney trail systems. Tools available will include weed whackers, backpack blowers, loppers, shovels, grabbers, etc. To use power tools, you’ll have to complete MPF Safety Orientation. Click here to view the regulations.

What to bring: Print the volunteer waiver and bring it with you. Participants under age 18 need to have a guardian or parent sign the form. You will also need to have your own work gloves. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, and water. Protective eyewear is recommended if you plan to be cutting branches or operating some of the cutting tools. If you bring your own tools, please have them marked as such so we know they are yours.

    • Continued construction of Skills Area return hub (block wall)
    • Continued clean-up of loose rocks, trash, and debris in the skills area
    • Leaf blowing on trails
    • Additional block required
    • Need to dispose of pallets from block delivery

Gray Branch Parkland Volunteer Workday

Where: Gray Branch Parkland, Gray Branch Rd, McKinney, TX 75071

When: Saturday, November 16th, 2024 9am – 11am

What we will be doing: We’ll be clearing the trail, clearing areas around planted trees, performing trash pickup, and removing fallen debris and trash on trails, removing stumps, marking potential dangers along the nature path, and applying trail markings. Tools available will include weed whackers, backpack blowers, loppers, shovels, etc. To use power tools, you’ll have to complete MPF Safety Orientation. Click here to view the regulations.

DORBA & MPF Workday at Erwin Park, September 14th 2024

When: Saturday, September 14th, 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time to sign a waiver and meet the group. Individuals needing to earn service hours can have their records signed by a board member at the conclusion of the event.

This event is in association with Erwin Park MTB and DORBA.

Where: Erwin Park 4300 Co Rd 1006, McKinney, TX 75071

What we will be doing: This workday will consist of tree-care from 2024’s ‘Shade the Trail’ Event, maintenance around park benches, litter removal, and removal of fallen debris on trails. Activities include weed removal, cutting tree limbs, cleaning surfaces, picking up trash, and mulching. Tools available will include weed whackers, backpack blowers, loppers, shovels, grabbers, etc. To use power tools, you’ll have to complete MPF Safety Orientation.

What to bring: Print the volunteer waiver and bring it with you. Participants under age 18 need to have a guardian or parent sign the form.

      • Water, sunscreen, bug spray, work gloves.
      • Rakes/shovels/hoes (supplied by MPF and Erwin Park MTB, tool donations gladly accepted)
      • Power tools, battery operated, for trail maintenance. Protective eyewear.

McKinney Greens Volunteer Workday

McKinney Greens Volunteer Workday

Where: McKinney Greens Park, 798 Stewart Rd McKinney, TX 75069 United States

When: August 17th, 2024, 8 – 11 AM

What we will be doing: We will be performing tree care by checking in on the trees planted during the Restore the Canopy Tree Planting Event in 2021. Trees may need to be pushed upright, tall grass areas trimmed, litter picked up, etc. We will also be clearing riparian areas of tall reeds and other aggressive under-story which is not conducive to a healthy creekside.

There are also remnants of the Interurban Railway that once used to connect the City of McKinney to surrounding towns. We will be checking in on these & preforming any sort of maintenance needed to help these historical landmarks be visible and clean. Please read about the Interurban Railway by clicking here.

Parking is available on Stewart Road on the right in front of the entrance. The Stewart Rd. entrance can be accessed by turning off of Highway 5 (north of 121, south of Eldorado).

You will also need to have your own work gloves for this activity. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, and water. Towne Lake Nature Trail Workday

When: Saturday, June 15th, 2024, 8 AM – 11 AM

Where: Towne Lake Nature Trail, 2001 S Central Expy, McKinney, TX 75070, The trail is to the East of the McKinney Recreation Center’s parking lot. Parking and restrooms are available at the Recreation Center at Towne Lake.

What we will be doing: Using trimmers to clear the trail of overgrowth, track pickup, clean the picnic areas, remove fallen debris on the trail. Tools available will include weed whackers, backpack blowers, loppers, shovels, etc. This park experiences graffiti often, if you’re interested in helping clean graffiti, please bring tools like a bucket, water, cleaning gloves, soap, rags, scrubbing brushes / graffiti cleaning kit.
