What we will be doing: This Garden is in need of attention in the form of weed pulling, trenching, tilling, and spreading mulch. The Gardens purpose, once back in shape, is to educate the community on native and drought tolerant plants. We are excited to partner with the City of McKinney’s Parks and Recreation Department and Office of Environmental Sustainability to bring this Garden to life.

What to bring: Print the volunteer waiver and bring it with you. Participants under age 18 need to have a guardian or parent sign the form. You will also need to have your own work gloves.  Bring bug spray, sunscreen, and water. Protective eyewear is recommended if you plan to be cutting branches or operating some of the cutting tools. Wheelbarrows are recommended to bring to help spread mulch. If you bring your own tools, please have them marked as such so we know they are yours.

What do I wear: Long pants, long sleeves, face covering, and closed toed shoes or boots. Sunscreen and bug spray are recommended.  Please dress appropriately for the weather. Please do not wear leggings or other thin material which is not protective on your body.

Webb Elementary School Garden Clean-up and Reestablishment

Webb Elementary is the first Elementary School to benefit from our Elementary School Garden initiative.  This initiative will build on our journey with McKinney Roots and the East McKinney Learning Gardens and begin to create school gardens that will enhance the learning of our elementary students. Our goal is to connect our students and community by developing school gardens where students can connect their learning in math, science and STEAM to real world applications. Our gardens will serve as a means of collaboration, problem solving and connection for our students.

At Webb Elementary we will be reestablishing our gardens!  We want to clean-up the garden beds, restain them and the benches so the outside courtyard is an inviting extension of the classrooms.
