Save the Date! Tree Planting Day @ McKinney Greens

Restore the Canopy! The Wilson Creek Tree Planting Event is a riparian restoration partnership project. Help plant trees to protect water quality and restore Wilson Creek to its natural beauty. Volunteers are needed. Please sign up to help plant trees by Friday, Oct. 22. Children 12 years and older may volunteer with an adult. If this event is rained out the event will occur on Saturday, Nov. 13.

RSVPs and the waiver through the City’s site is required. If you have a scout troop or group where minors are participating with a chaperone and the parent won’t be present, contact ellenlataie@gmail.com to inquire about the waiver process. The guardian must sign the waiver for each child.

Event Day Information for Wilson Creek Tree Planting Event

November 6th, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Parking: Collin County Appraisal District parking lot
250 Eldorado Pkwy, McKinney, TX 75069

Shuttle: There will be a shuttle running every 15 minutes to/from the parking lot. Do not park in the adjacent neighborhoods or along the street. The shuttle will make two stops. The first stop along the southern edge of McKinney Greens on Stewart Road is for those participants who signed up for the Seedlings. If you are an adult participating with children, this is where you will exit. The second stop is on the north end along Wilson Creek Parkway. This is the stop for those participants who signed up for the 3–5-gallon trees or 15-gallon trees. The shuttle will pick you up when you leave the event and take you back to the parking lot.

Arrival: After existing the shuttle, check in at the tents. You will then be directed to move to the area where you will be volunteering. All participants are required to have completed the waiver. Children who are volunteering must have had their waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

What to Bring: Work gloves, closed-toe shoes, and enthusiasm! The site does not have a secure location for you to store your personal belongings. Please only bring what you can carry on your person. The first 200 volunteers to arrive will receive a complimentary reusable water bottle. Limited snacks will be available.

Safety First: This event involves heave equipment, tools, and the natural passive park space is home to animals and poison ivy. Stay in the areas where you are performing the work and be alert of your surroundings. Do not use earbuds and children must be always supervised by their parent/guardian/chaperone. Those who demonstrate irresponsibility with equipment or disregard safety instructions will be asked to leave the event. If you are unfamiliar with how to operate a tool, choose a task that you are more comfortable with performing. Organizers will be around to demonstrate the use of certain tools and provide instruction on your tasks.

Facilities: Portable restrooms will be available to volunteers. Picnic tables or seating is not available in this passive park space.
